About us
Where It All Began
Millets Wildside grew from a childhood fascination. From a very young age, James was captivated by birds of prey—visiting centres, meeting falconers, reading every book he could find, and travelling across the country to watch displays.
At just 16, driven by determination and a deep love for wildlife, he began his professional falconry journey, establishing his first collection of birds at Fallowfields Hotel.
Growing Into Something Bigger
Fallowfields Falconry initially offered displays and experiences for hotel guests, but its reputation quickly spread. Soon, James and his birds were attending events and shows across the region.
A special weekend slot at Millets Farm Centre became a turning point. Discussions began about creating a permanent home, and with the support of his wife Sharon, James spent months designing and building what would become Millets Farm Falconry Centre. The Centre opened its doors in May 2013.
Becoming Oxfordshire’s Largest Wildlife Attraction
What started as a small falconry display has grown into a thriving zoo—home to hundreds of animals from around the world. Visitors can explore an impressive collection of Birds of Prey alongside Meerkats, Lemurs, Otters, Marmosets, Raccoons, Skunks, Ferrets, Reptiles, Mongoose, and many more.
Tropical Butterfly House*, Wallaby Walkthrough, and Crocodile exhibits offer unforgettable encounters for all ages.
A New Name for a New Era
As the collection expanded and our mission broadened, even the name could no longer contain it. In 2023, we proudly became Millets Wildside—a name that reflects the scale, diversity, and ambition of the centre today.
James’ Reflection
“I am so proud of what we’ve achieved at Millets Wildside, and none of it would have been possible without the support of an amazing team of keepers—both past and present—and the encouragement of the many visitors we’ve welcomed over the years. For that, I am forever grateful. It’s an honour and a privilege to share my life’s work with so many people and inspire the next generation.”
Mission statement
At Millets wildside, our mission is to further understanding and respect for all animals, especially birds of prey, whilst providing a first class experience for all our visitors.
How we achieve these goals
We believe the key to proactive conservation begins with education. We have a dedicated education room on site where we welcome schools and groups for different talks on projects run both worldwide and by us.
We also strive to keep our animals in modern, naturalistic enclosures in accordance with best practice, enabling our visitors to experience a stimulating and enjoyable day out that is both excellent value for time and money.
