Owls

Owls are nocturnal birds of prey, especially well-known for their distinctive ‘hoo’ call at night. They have binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons and feathers adapted for silent flight.

There are around 220 different species of owls.

The colour of owls eyes tell you roughly when they hunt, whether they are nocturnal, diurnal or crepuscular.

The heaviest owl at our centre is Ellie our Eurasian Eagle owl weighing around 9 pounds while our Lightest owls is Quintessa who weighs just under 7 oz!

The Tawny Owl is the only owl the makes the famous ‘twit twoo’ sound if you hear both the twit andthe twoo it’s 2 owls talking.

We were kindly given a bird of prey experience by our daughter. Arrived early in time to walk around the falconry and enjoy a bird flight show. The experience itself was great as so got to hold a couple of birds on glove and also fly a couple. Thoroughly recommended.
